Dr Andrew Preston

MacDiarmid alumni Andrew Preston’s start-up company Publons was acquired by Clarivate Analytics on 1 June 2017.
Dr Preston, who started the company in 2012 with colleague Daniel Johnston, studied on a MacDiarmid Institute PhD scholarship (2007-2009) under MacDiarmid PI Associate Professor Ben Ruck.
Preston and Johnston set up Publons to incentivise peer review by giving credit and recognition to researchers who review publications.
It is New Zealand’s first significant exit from an accelerator programme.
