MacDiarmid scientists win at KiwiNet Research Commercialisation Awards

Associate Professor Cather Simpson

Associate Professor Cather Simpson, a Principal Investigator with the MacDiarmid Institute, won the Supreme Award at the KiwiNet Research Commercialisation Awards on 30 June. She also won her section – the Baldwins Researcher Entrepreneur Award.

MacDiarmid Institute Director Professor Thomas Nann said the Institute was seeing dynamic and innovative research being translated into high commercial value.

“Professor Simpson’s work in this area is an exemplar for the whole of the hi-tech science and commercialization area.”

Dr Carla Meledandri

Dr Carla Meledandri, who is also a Principal Investigator with the MacDiarmid Institute, won the ‘Norman F. Barry Trust Emerging Innovator Award. MacDiarmid Institute Director Professor Thomas Nann said that Dr Meledandri was a scientist who truly sought to take her research into practical applications.

“Dr Meledandri’s win show the success of the CoRE model for New Zealand science, where excellent research can translate into real economic gain for New Zealand.”
