Biography

Kai received his PhD in physics from Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) in 2015. He then worked as a Postdoc Fellow in the Ultrafast Spectroscopy group at VUW under Dr Justin Hodgkiss’s supervision. Before joining VUW, he had research experience at Academia Sinica and earned his bachelor's degree in physics and master's in electronic engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.

Research interests

Kai's research focuses on advanced optoelectronic materials and spectroscopy technologies.  As a spectroscopist, he has experience in optics, nonlinear optics, and advanced laser and spectroscopy systems. He has developed and applied ultrafast laser based spectroscopy techniques for various advanced material systems, for example, organic semiconductors, conducting polymers, semiconducting quantum dots, and hybrid perovskites. Currently, he is collaborating with several top international groups in fundamental research and instrumental development.

Optical characterisation techniques play important roles in modern material science and technology. With advanced laser and spectroscopy techniques, we can gain insight into optical and electronic properties to provide invaluable information for the development and application of novel materials.
