What we do

Dr Nick White and the Australian National University

Dr Nick White completed his BSc (Hons) at the University of Otago with MacDiarmid Institute Principal Investigator Professor Sally Brooker.

His chemistry research paved the way for a PhD at the University of Oxford and a Postdoctorate Fellowship at the University of British Columbia.

In 2015 Nick took up a position as lecturer at Australian National University and is now leading a research programme investigating anion–templated functional materials. The programme is exploring the possibilities of anions, for example, whether anions can build framework materials to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere or remove environmental pollutants from drinking water.

The MacDiarmid Institute is really where I started doing research chemistry, so it means a lot. I think it’s a really neat concept to have such a large group of leading researchers spread across the country working on similar goals.
